MSOCOW.- Russia’s Foreign Ministry regrets Azerbaijan Airlines failed to provide services for Russian citizen having an Armenian surname, said spokesman Alexander Lukashevich.

Azerbaijani company’s refusal to check in Russian citizen with Armenian surname for Moscow-Baku flight is regrettable, he added.

“All questions in this regard should be addressed to the leadership of the company,” he said, RIA Novosti reported.

According to him, Moscow is familiar with position of Azerbaijani and Armenian sides on the issues regarding entry to both states. It was seriously complicated by the unsettled Karabakh conflict and lack of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

”In this connection, we recommend Russian citizens to take this into account when planning their trips, primarily in order to ensure their own security,” he concluded.

Head of export sales of “AvtoVAZ” company Sergey Gyurdzhiyan told in his blog he failed to fly from Moscow to Baku on October 27 because the airline employees refused to register him on the flight. According to Gyurdzhiyan, the reason was his Armenian name.
