Armenia’s Ministry of Defense on Saturday ceremoniously marked 19th anniversary of the Intelligence Department of the Armed Forces.

The event brought together Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, Armed Forces Chief of Staff, Colonel General Yury Khachaturov, senior officers, and military attachés accredited in Armenia.

Seyran Ohanyan noted that thanks to Armenian intelligence officers, the adversary’s diversion and intelligence-gathering activities and attempts were discovered and neutralized on numerous occasions in recent years. The Minister of Defense specifically said: “Without carrying out intelligence, we cannot achieve success both during the Artsakh (Karabakh) struggle for survival and today. I believe the intelligence officers perform their tasks very highly. Mutual respect and trust is priority in their interpersonal relations (…). The intelligence officers perform tasks under equally dangerous conditions.”

At the end of the event, the Defense Minister awarded the Ministry’s medals to several servicemen of the intelligence forces.
