A court in Baku has sentenced opposition activist Elkhan Aliyev to five years in prison after finding him guilty in a case of fraud in the sale of a land plot, Caucasian Knot writes. Two other defendants were sentenced to suspended sentences, none of the defendants pleaded guilty, the lawyer said.

In July 2023, a court in Baku arrested Elkhan Aliyev, a member of the Azerbaijani Popular Front party, suspected of fraud, illegal document production, and deliberate use of false documents. The oppositionist declared his innocence and the political nature of the prosecution.
