The current authorities of Armenia vainly compare the ancient Armenian civilization, which has a centuries-old history, with the European Union (EU), whose affairs are, frankly, bad today. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Maria Zakharova.

"Today I saw the recap of our conversation and saw a quote from one of the representatives of the official structures of Armenia, who said that Armenia is the bearer of European democratic and some other values," she said on Zvezda television.

"You know what surprises me? Why do the representatives of the incumbent authorities in Yerevan patronize like that? Why do they compare the ancient Armenian civilization with its existing culture, history, and statehood, which existed long before European democracy, with the current European Union, which is really at a dead end? And this is exactly what they are talking about when they quote words about European democracy."

"Armenia is a culture, it is a state structure, and these are the foundations of statehood, the roots of which go deep into the past. They have a thousand-year history," continued Zakharova and emphasized that Armenia has found "a model that no one in the West is seriously talking about anymore."

She recalled one of the statements by the former US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, who presented the EU as an absolutely amorphous, weak-willed, and collapsing organization.

The official representative of the Russian MFA drew attention to the fact that now the situation of the EU is clearly visible, taking into account the political, economic, social, and legal indicators. "Everything is falling apart," Zakharova stressed.

And now, she said, a representative of an ancient civilization with a thousand-year history, who "seems to have been shown a mirror in front of a diamond, ruby or emerald," is asking to be associated with "a community in crisis."
