YEREVAN. – News about the likely dismissal of Arman Mkrtumyan, Chief Judge of Armenia’s Court of Appeals, is not motivated so much with fight against corruption, but it is rather linked to conflict between the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia and Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), Hraparak daily writes.   

“Mkrtumyan has close relations with PAP [Parliamentary] Faction member Harutyun Gharagyozyan, and, according to our sources, the ruling power wants to make Gharagyozyan understand that he could lose an important partner such as the Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals. On the other hand, they are also making Mkrtumyan understand that such contacts are not wanted, and if he cannot have some bearing on Gharagyozyan, he would put his future tenure at risk,” Hraparak writes.
