YEREVAN. - If the incident implicating the Governor of Syunik region really occurred, it is worth a discussion, said Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan, commenting on published information that Governor Suren Khachatryan beat up businesswoman Silva Hambardzumyan. According to the media, the incident occurred in Armenia-Marriot hotel on November 14.

The PM said that the issue has generated different interpretations and stressed that as Prime Minister he has no right to make assessments of the events the validity of which has not been confirmed.

"If it indeed occurred, it’s reprehensible. However, let me bring an example from my own experience: recently the media shouted that I appeared before the public drunk. Whoever you should ask: "How do you feel about the fact that the Prime Minister had acted thus and thus?" the answer would be – it’s a shame. But in fact it did not happen. Therefore, I ask you to respect the requirements of our law: the executive has no right to act with the estimates, while criminal proceedings are not completed," concluded Sargsyan.
