YEREVAN. – People can observe the meteor Leonid flow on November 14-21. It will reach its pick in the night of November 18 and will continue till the morning.

It is possible to observe more than 20 meteors in an hour during this stage, Armenian Astronomic Union informs Armenian News-NEWS.am. The Moon will be in quarter-phase, which will make it difficult to observe small Leonids. The centre of the meteor flow of Leonids, which is called a radiant of a meteor flow in astronomy, is in the direction of constellation with Leo.

Leonids have on average quite a high speed of 72 km/hour. Their size can reach to 9mm and weigh 85 g.

The meteor flow is caused when the Earth moving around the Sun, comes across a group of meteors. They penetrate into the atmosphere, burn, reminding ‘falling stars,’ visible only for a couple of seconds.
