YEREVAN.- The nuclear arms race may indeed end in a nuclear war, President of the Middle East Institute Yevgeny Satanovsky told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The expert commented on the recent statement by Chief of Staff of the Russian armed forces Nikolay Markov that local conflicts might grow into large-scale war involving nuclear weaponry.
The expert stressed that situation in the Middle East has been unsteady and Iranian-Israeli conflict is on the agenda. Satanovsky argues that if Iran has nuclear weapon, which is presumably the case, the war will certainly involve nuclear arms.
Satanovsky mentioned that leadership of the general staff expressed reasonable concerns that the era of nuclear arms race could actually result in nuclear war. In this context, the experts stressed there are “no people in charge of the situation” and consequently “everyone does what he wants.”
