ANKARA. – Turkey is ready to face its own history and past, Speaker of Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Çiçek said on Friday during the opening of the international symposium on “Sultan Abdülmecid’s 150th death anniversary and international period,” Internet Haber website reports.
Regarding Armenian Genocide and Turkey’s ability to face its history, Çiçek said that there were periods to be proud of and periods causing rebellions during thousand years of presence of the Turks in Anatolia.
“Accusations of international level are referring to us, especially connected with 1915. We are ready to face our history regarding the 1915 events. We opened our archives and are ready to discuss works of historians. I believe instead of making judgments on wrong information, it is better to discuss the facts presented by our historians,” Çiçek said.
He also stated that Turkey must face its own history. In case of errors, they should be studied for the sake of establishing future.
