The veto mechanism in the UN will not disappear under any circumstances, the Secretary General of the World Organization, António Guterres, said in an exclusive interview with TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman.

"There is still a very complicated issue of the veto. The veto mechanism will not disappear under any circumstances, but there is some progress in the relationship between the Security Council and the General Assembly," he said.

"The General Assembly receives clarification from the Security Council when it vetoes. I believe there are aspects in the working methods of the Security Council that can be improved. In addition, it is important to improve the efficiency and legitimacy of the Security Council, because the UN as an organization as a whole pays a high price when the Security Council cannot solve a problem," said António Guterres.
