Regular structural and personnel changes took place in Azeri Armed Forces within the framework of transition to NATO military standards, MilAz News Agency reports. According to the source, land forces had been created in Azerbaijan.

The land forces were built up during the Nov. 2-4 visit of Ishig Koshener, Turkish Army land troops Commander. Lt. Gen. Karam Mustafayev was appointed troops’ commander, holding previously the post of the military unit commander in Nakhchivan.

However, Echo daily quotes Azeri Defense Ministry Spokesman Eldar Safarov as saying, “Not I know of establishment of land forces and Karam Mustafayev’s new appointment.”

The Military Expert Uzeir Jafarov confirmed the information on possible establishment of such structure in the country. According to him a joint HQ of land forces will be set up in Azerbaijan. “The HQ will instruct the forces located throughout Azerbaijan from the centre,” he said. Jafarov maintains that the decision was made by authorities. Signing of relevant documents is pending.
