The money that Rosatom had transferred to Turkey for the construction of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP)—the largest Russian-Turkish investment project—is under seizure. The head of this Russian state corporation, Alexey Likhachev, announced this in an interview with Russia-1 television.

"The reciprocal payment system is under attack. They are seizing money," complained Likhachev. “They, meaning the Americans who are going between our legal entities, between our banks.” 

The implementation of the aforesaid nuclear plant project in Turkey, which is estimated at $25 billion and is fully paid for by Russia, is hindered by sanctions, Likhachev admitted. Although Rosatom is not under Western sanctions, several of its subsidiaries are on the sanction lists.

According to Likhachev, despite the sanctions and difficulties, Rosatom continues the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, which will become the first in Turkey and, according to the plan, will serve 12 million consumers.
