Venezuela's opposition leaders have announced that their united candidate received 2.3 times more votes in Sunday's presidential election than incumbent Nicolas Maduro, who was declared the winner by the National Electoral Council Monday.

They have called on fellow citizens to take to the streets for mass protests.

Maduro and his top officials, for their part, have begun to invent conspiracy theories, according to which the Venezuelan opposition allegedly wants to deprive them of their legitimate power.

United Platform’s presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez and opposition leader Maria Corina Machado have announced that they have evidence of electoral fraud and documents with real results.

On Monday evening, they received the voting reports with the voting results of 73% of the polling stations. They show that 6.2 million people supported Gonzalez and 2.7 million—Maduro, the Financial Times and other world media have reported.
