French authorities have arrested Telegram founder Pavel Durov on someone's advice to get access to the Telegram encryption codes; this proves that the messenger is "really protected," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"As for using that platform, it's very convenient, it's really protected. Anyway, if anyone had any doubts about it, now that Durov has apparently been caught on someone's advice and is being threatened with dire punishment, perhaps hoping to somehow gain access to the [Telegram] encryption codes, it has now been proven by the actions of the French that Telegram is a really reliable and popular network," Russian FM said, answering TASS' question at a press conference which was held after talks with Shaya Mohsin Zindani, Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

Telegram founder Pavel Durov was detained at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on August 24. The next day, his detention was extended by 96 hours. The Paris prosecutor's office accuses him of complicity in drug trafficking, crimes against children, and fraud. That is, in fact, he is seen as an accomplice of those who commit these and other offenses using Telegram.
