YEREVAN. - Turkey’s dissatisfaction in Syrian community is due to economic factor, expert on oriental studies Suren Manukyan told the journalists on Thursday commenting on relation perspectives of Turkey and Syria.

According to him, the dissatisfaction is based on the fact that Syrian producers lost to Turkish enterprises. There was time when Syria was leading in the region on both light and food industry. Later Turkish goods filled the Syrian market, which caused dissatisfaction in Syria.

Regarding France’s initiative to invite Turkey for EU forum on Syria in Brussels, the expert said that France tries to form a position of a non-supporter in the Damascus issue at least outwardly, in order to smooth the negative impression by Libyan companies. This was the reason of the initiative, which was rejected by Greece and Cyprus. France supported its oil-gas interests so obviously that it has to reestablish its international reputation, Manukyan believes.

However, it will be difficult for the interested powers to create a “second Gaddafi” reputation for the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Syrian government is not as cruel as other eastern regimes. It will not be so easy to put him as a universal target, the expert concluded.
