The death toll from typhoon Yagi has neared 200 in Vietnam, and more than 125 people are still missing after resultant floods and landslides hit the country, the latter’s state media reported Thursday.

A total of 197 people were killed, 128 others are still missing, and more than 800 were injured, according to Vietnamese newspaper VnExpress. The death toll rose sharply earlier in the week when flash floods washed away the entire LangNu village in northern Vietnam's Lao Cai Province on Tuesday.

Hundreds of rescuers were working tirelessly on Wednesday to search for survivors, but 53 villagers were still missing as of Thursday morning, VnExpress added, while seven more bodies were found, bringing the death toll there to 42.

Also, heavy rains from typhoon Yagi have damaged factories in export-oriented industrial centers in northern Vietnam.
