The restrictions the West has placed on itself in supporting Ukraine only reflect its fear, weakness and indecisiveness - all of which fuel the aggressor. This is what Estonian President Alar Karis wrote in a column for Politico.

The Estonian president recalled a time of hope after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the independence of several Eastern European countries.

“But our hopes for a lasting peace and our belief in the impossibility of war in Europe have failed,” Karis said.

And in his view, in these difficult times, the West has drawn lines for itself that only exacerbate the problem.

By making assumptions about Russia's intentions, Western countries have built their own wall, Karis argued.

“We drew a line, believing that crossing it would mean escalation.

That is not true! Our fear is unjustified... The limits we have set for ourselves have been discredited repeatedly. They only reflect our fear, weakness and indecision - all this feeds the aggressor, encourages him, increases his appetite,” the Estonian president said.

He emphasized that the restrictions are unjust, immoral and harmful.

Karis recalled Ronald Reagan's speech in Berlin in 1987, in which he addressed the guards of the wall with a simple but powerful appeal: “Tear down this wall!”. And two and a half years later, on November 9, 1989, Berliners did just that.

“Decades later, we are paradoxically building the wall ourselves, forcing Ukraine to fight its own battle over it, waddling on, facing new Russian attacks and bearing more casualties every day.

Therefore, paraphrasing Reagan, I appeal to all of us: Let's break down this wall of restrictions!” - wrote Alar Karis.
