The European Union (EU) cannot impose an embargo on the delivery of weapons to the countries of the Middle East, as this matter is within the jurisdiction of the national authorities of the EU member states. Peter Stano, Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission of the EU, stated this at the press conference held in Brussels.

The EU has no jurisdiction in arms trade, and this matter is decided by the EU member states, Stano said, while responding to a reporter’s question as to whether the EU could impose an arms embargo on the entire Middle East to resolve the ongoing conflict there.
