A group of Iranian lawmakers have called on the Supreme National Security Council of Iran to allow the making of nuclear weapons due to Israel's threats, ISNA news agency reports.

"Today, no international organization, not even the European and American countries, can control Israel. On this basis, about 39 [Iranian] parliamentarians wrote a letter to the Supreme National Security Council and signed it, proposing to the council to review the defense doctrine of the Islamic Republic of Iran," stated Hasan-Ali Ehlyaki, a member of the Iranian parliamentary committee on culture, speaking to ISNA.

Iran's defense doctrine, following the fatwa by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, prohibits the making of nuclear weapons, considering their production to be against Islam.

Ehlyaki noted, however, that this ban can be revised.
