India approved on Wednesday plans to build two new class of nuclear-powered attack submarines, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing the country's Defense Ministry officials.

The project is estimated to cost about 450 billion rupees ($5.4 billion).

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet has approved the construction of the first two new class of submarines out of six planned for the Indian Navy, the officials added. However, they did not disclose the delivery dates.
