The first performance of MAiRA Pro S, the next-generation robot conductor, was held last weekend in Dresden, Germany, The Guardian reports.

"Her two performances in the eastern German city are intended to show off the latest advances in machine maestros, as well as music written explicitly to harness 21st-century technology," the newspaper stated.

The artistic director of Dresden’s Sinfoniker, Markus Rindt, said the intention was “not to replace human beings,” but to perform complex music that human conductors would find impossible.

These unusual concerts were dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Dresden symphony orchestra, RusVerlag.de noted. During the concerts, the robot used three arms, breaking the rhythm, and managed to show dynamics at the same time.

MAiRA Pro S is not long on charisma or passion, but it keeps perfect rhythm, according to reporters.
