Some 345,000 Gazans will face catastrophic levels of hunger this winter due to dwindling humanitarian aid supplies, UN agencies said Thursday, warning of a constant risk of famine across the Palestinian territory, AFP reports.

This is more than the 133,000 people currently facing “catastrophic food insecurity,” according to the classification by UN agencies and NGOs.

A flurry of humanitarian aid this summer brought some relief to Gazans, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report said.

However, September saw the lowest volume of commercial and humanitarian supplies entering Gaza since March.

Consequently, the number of people experiencing catastrophic food insecurity (IPC Phase 5) is projected to likely reach 345,000 between November 2024 and April 2025, representing 16 percent of the population.
