U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said during his visit to Qatar that negotiators will meet again soon to discuss efforts to secure a cease-fire agreement on hostages.

The US Secretary of State said Israel's killing of Hamas political bureau chief Yahya Sinwar last week could open the door to renewed talks on a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

“We discussed options for capitalizing on this moment and next steps to move the process forward, and I expect our negotiators to come together in the coming days,” Blinken told reporters.

He said Israel has “achieved the strategic goals it set for itself at the beginning of the war just over a year ago: to make sure that the brutal Hamas massacre of Oct. 7, 2023, never happens again by effectively dismantling the Hamas organization and holding its leaders accountable.”

Asked whether negotiators were considering new formulas, Blinken said: “One of the things we are doing is exploring whether there are other options we can use to come to an agreement. We are discussing this with other mediators in Egypt and Qatar, and this is something that (U.S. and Israeli) negotiators will discuss when they get together.”
