North Korea has launched a long-range ballistic missile toward its eastern waters. This was reported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea.

The military statement suggests that the missile was launched from North Korea “at a high angle.”

According to DW, the Japanese Coast Guard confirmed the missile launch from North Korea and also suggested it was likely ballistic. The country's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani, speaking to reporters, said the missile had the “longest flight time” in North Korea's history and suggested that “it may be different from conventional missiles.”

White House National Security Council (NSC) spokesman Sean Savett said the United States “strongly condemns” North Korea's “test of an intercontinental ballistic missile”. He said the launch “is a blatant violation of numerous UN Security Council resolutions.”

“We call on all countries to condemn these violations and call on the DPRK to cease its destabilizing actions and engage in serious dialogue,” the statement, published on the White House website, also said.
