North Korea said Friday it successfully test-fired its new Hwasong-19 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, according to Yonhap News agency.

North Korea said the Hwasong-19 traversed 1,001.2 kilometers at a maximum altitude of 7,687.5 kilometers.

According to the Japanese Ministry of Defense, this ICBM launched by North Korea was in flight for a record 86 minutes and during this time it rose to its all-time high of more than 7,000 kilometers. It traveled a thousand kilometers and fell about 200 kilometers west of the Okushiri Island of Japan, near Hokkaido Island, outside Japan's exclusive economic zone.

KCNA reported on Thursday that North Korea had conducted a "very important test" of an ICBM on the orders of the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un.
