The United States will sell four E-7 Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft worth $4.92 billion to South Korea, the US State Department and the Pentagon's respective division have reported.

Provision of CFM56 jet engines, radars, digital receivers, missile attack warning devices, personnel training, and maintenance are planned within the framework of these agreements with Seoul.

As per the respective statement, this sale will improve South Korea's ability to counter current and future threats.

The US authorities assure, however, that these transactions will not change the basic military balance in the region.

As noted in the statement, this sale will have no negative impact on the combat readiness of the American defense system.

Washington has already informed the US Congress about its aforesaid decision. The American lawmakers now have 30 days to study these arrangements—and possibly ban them.
