During a meeting between President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump at the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday, Biden is expected to urge Trump to continue supporting Ukraine, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CBS News.

Biden and Trump will discuss key US domestic and foreign policy priorities, particularly what's happening in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, Sullivan said.

Also, the president will urge the incoming Trump administration not to abandon Kyiv, as this could lead to even greater instability in Europe.

Sullivan added that Biden's main message to the president-elect will be his commitment to ensure a peaceful transfer of power.

Such meetings are an established practice and are intended to mark the beginning of the process of transferring power from the outgoing president to the elected one, CBS notes.
