YEREVAN. – Crimes of the notorious gang arrested in September in Yerevan are proved by investigation, Armenian Deputy Police Chief Nerses Nazaryan told Armenian News-NEWS.am in the interview regarding the gang neutralized on September 23.
Nazaryan replied to the question regarding the serious suspicions on the gang case that police allegedly arrested wrong people and that the arrested people had not accepted their guilt, while the crimes are still undiscovered and robberies are still going on without being discovered. Nerses Nazaryan said that various robberies have always been and will continue, as robberies are implemented by different gangs.
In response to the report that one of the heads of the gang Gurgen Hayrapetyan’s brother claims that his sons Aram and Artak Hayrapetyan may be released, as they are suspected to have connection to the gang, Nazaryan responded that the investigation will reveal everything.
Nazaryan excludes that police could arrest wrong people.
To note, parents of young men who were arrested on the robbery attacks, told Armenian News-NEWS.am correspondent that the robberies are still going on and the officials are still suffering from the attacks. They also stated that they are ready to appeal to the European Court to prove their sons’ innocence.
Police arrested the gang on September 23 this year. Some of the suspects tried to escape, while Gurgen Hayrapetyan, 49, fell from the cliff and died during the escape.
Total of 16 people were detained, while 8 of them including one of the heads of the gang Artush Hakobyan, were arrested later.
