Iranian Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani has unveiled plans to commission a new indigenously produced warship that will be equipped with long-range vertical-launch anti-aircraft missiles.

Rear Admiral Shahram Irani gave an interview to Iran's Tasnim News Agency on the occasion of the National Navy Day. Emphasizing the navy's progress in producing a wide range of equipment, the commander said that a new homegrown ship named Kurdistan will be unveiled in the near future.

He noted that the new warship will be equipped with the Sayyad surface-to-air missile system, which can fire long-range missiles vertically.

The Rear Admiral also said that another new ship, named Zagros, will enter service, adding that the missile capabilities of the Sabalan destroyer have been quadrupled.

He said the navy has also developed sea-to-surface missiles with a range of over 1,000 kilometers using innovative technologies. Lauding the Iranian navy's progress in submarine production, Rear Admiral Irani said production of heavy and super-heavy submarines is on the agenda.

He said the navy is developing a heavy submarine named Besat, which will be equipped with advanced weaponry and will enter into service after necessary tests. Asked about the navy's drone capabilities, the commander said his forces would get two types of “strategic drones” manufactured by local experts.
