YEREVAN. – Head of Kajaran village community of Armenia’s Syunik Region Rafik Atayan was invited to police on Wednesday, Ekolur environmental organization informs.

According to the report, Atayan was taken to Kapan city police department. The farmers believe that it is a way to press the head of the community to sign under the governmental decision. It states that village lands, which are recognized as benefits of public lands, will be given to the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC). However, Atayan was later released at 07.00 p.m. apparently under the farmers’ suppression.

Kajaran village has been demanding for several months no renounce the decision, otherwise the farmers will have to forcibly leave the village.

Armenian News-NEWS.am reported that the owner of the ZCMC German Cronimet Company is ready to discuss farmers’ complaints and offers. However, it has no intentions to stop expanding the mining project.
