If the ruling Georgian Dream party and the opposition do not reach a compromise regarding the scheduling of new parliamentary elections, then Georgia will face the "overthrow of the regime," President Salome Zourabichvili said in a video message, Interpressnews reports.

"The crisis [in Georgia] has reached such a phase that we have no other choice. And we have tried and tested all possible legal measures to contain this crisis before it reaches such proportions. These were trials, but we did not get results because of the sad state of our courts," Zourabichvili said.

According to her, the fact that the Constitutional Court of Georgia did not accept and discuss the lawsuit against the victory of the Georgian Dream party in the recent parliamentary election "has created a new unconstitutional situation" in the country.

"An illegitimate parliament should not be convened without me or without an answer from the Constitutional Court," the Georgian president said.

She added that the aforesaid lawsuit was submitted to the European Court of Human Rights as well, but it "will not give an answer today or tomorrow."

"There is no legal, constitutional way left. It remains to call new [parliamentary] elections, and this is the demand of the people, the demand of me and the political parties," said the president of Georgia.

Zourabichvili believes that there are two solutions to the current situation in Georgia: either to hold new parliamentary elections by no later than December 29 and "restore the confidence of the voters," or to “overthrow the current regime."

"This regime is collapsing by itself, and no one is participating in it. You, those in power, are to blame because you did not come to your senses in time and see how to deal with this country," concluded the Georgian president.
