One of the oldest Armenian schools in Los Angeles, the Sahag-Mesrob school, was completely burned down as a result of the wildfires in the US state of California, a member of the local Armenian community told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
Our interlocutor informed that Pasadena, one of the most Armenian-populated cities, was evacuated and the roads were closed. Part of the population in Glendale has also been evacuated.
"A large number of Armenians were evacuated, as Pasadena and Hollywood are the most Armenian-populated cities. Regardless of what the local leadership is undertaking, the Armenian community is doing a special job. The Armenian church, Armenian schools, centers have opened their doors, they have provided shelter, food to the people," said the interlocutor.
Our interlocutor added the houses of a large number of Armenians in the area were either completely or partially burned. There are no Armenians among the victims of the fire—although according to the latest data in Pasadena, five people have died as a result of these wildfires.
