Moscow is interested in peace, stability, and security in the Caucasus, and it will continue to develop relations with both Baku and Yerevan. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, commenting on the accusations of Azerbaijan and Armenia against each other regarding the escalation of tension in the region, TASS reports.

Peskov emphasized that the South Caucasus is not a distant region for Russia.

"We [i.e. Russia] want peace, stability, predictability, an atmosphere of mutual trust and security in the Caucasus. We have good relations with both Azerbaijan and Armenia, and we attach importance to those relations. And we intend to do everything that depends on us in order to further develop these relations," said the Kremlin spox.

When asked whether Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently had contacts with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Peskov responded that "there have been no contacts these [past] days."
