Armenia's decision to sign a strategic partnership agreement with the US is Yerevan's sovereign decision, and Russia does not dictate to anyone with whom to cooperate, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov told a press conference Tuesday.

"Yesterday I heard that [Armenia foreign minister] Ararat Mirzoyan signed an agreement, a strategic partnership agreement, with [US Secretary of State Antony] Blinken. But this is the sovereign decision of the two states," Lavrov said.

According to him, the main thing is not who signed what and what the document is called, but what follows from it.

"We have used the term ‘strategic partnership’ in a number of agreements with Western countries. But those agreements, declaring ‘strategic partnership,’ never required from this or that participant to act against a third country," the Russian FM emphasized.
