Russian natural gas has reached Slovakia via the TurkStream pipeline, which was cut off from previous natural gas routes after Ukraine had not extended its transit agreement with Russia’s Gazprom. This was informed by Vojtech Ferencz, head of the Slovak natural gas company SPP, to the Slovak newspaper Dennik N.

Russian natural gas supplies to Slovakia began on February 1, and will double in April.

SPP's contract with Gazprom Export runs until 2034, and the buyer cannot terminate it.

SPP is establishing a subsidiary in Ukraine and obtaining a natural gas transit license to be able to transport natural gas from Russia.

According to Ferencz, transporting natural gas via the new route will cost the SPP 90 million euros more than transiting it through Ukraine.
