Subaru has introduced an updated version of the current generation Forester SL crossover. In the specifications for the North American market, this model will be offered for the first time with a parallel hybrid powertrain, reports Drom.ru.

The Forester Hybrid is equipped with a powertrain that includes a 2.5-liter horizontally opposed gasoline engine, a Lineatronic variator (torque transmission), and a power system including a 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. The total power of this system is 194 horsepower, and it has an all-wheel drive electric drive.

Also, the Forester’s standard version in the US and Canada will remain a gasoline version with a 180-horsepower 2.5 engine.

The hybrid not only has more power, but also better fuel economy. This modification consumes only 6.77 liters of gasoline per 100 km in the city, which is 40% less than a purely gasoline engine.

A special version of the Wilderness was also introduced. This name means a modification with off-road capabilities. The ground clearance of this version is 236 mm, +7 mm compared to the standard. In addition, wheels of a larger diameter (17 inches versus 16) and tires with a special off-road tread are installed.

The distinctive features of the Wilderness exterior are the completely original design of the shock absorbers. Also, this modification uses a variator radiator, thanks to which the maximum trailer towing capacity has reached 1,587 kg. A temperature sensor has been added to the rear differential. Wilderness will be offered on the market only in a gasoline version. Sales of this modification will start in the fall.
