The Council of the European Union adopted a decision on Monday authorizing the Commission to open negotiations for readmission as well as visa facilitation agreements with Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Once the Commission estimates that negotiations with the two countries will have been finalized, the Council will need to adopt decisions on signing and concluding the agreements by qualified majority and the European Parliament will need to give its consent,” the document reads.

Armenia and EU signed the Declaration on a Mobility Partnership between Armenia and European Union in late October.

Partnership on mobility aims to control migration between Armenia and EU, combat against illegal migration, and regulate Armenian citizens’ legal entrance.
