US President Donald Trump on Wednesday answered reporters' questions at the Oval Office of the White House.

His first meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which was agreed upon during a phone call Wednesday, will take place in Saudi Arabia, BBC reports.

Trump said he agreed with his Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, that Ukraine's membership in NATO is not realistic. He said it is not practical.

Trump added, however, that the US will continue to provide assistance to Ukraine. He did not specify how, but has previously suggested that Ukraine supply the US with critically important rare earth minerals in exchange.

The US president believes that a ceasefire in Ukraine is possible in the not-too-distant future, and that the country should hold new elections at some point. But according to Ukrainian law, elections cannot be held during martial law in the country.
