Azerbaijan is seeking “full reparations from Armenia for the extensive destruction of the habitats and species caused by Armenia,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated, APA reports.

“This includes widespread deforestation, environmentally unsustainable logging, mining, and construction of hydropower plants during Armenia’s occupation of part of Azerbaijan’s territory, which negatively affected the hundreds of wildlife species and their habitats native to that territory,” the aforesaid media outlet added.

According to the source, the Azerbaijani on Wednesday side has filed the Statement of Claim with the Permanent Court of Arbitration (in The Hague) in its arbitration case against Armenia under the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats of 1979 (the Bern Convention). The Statement of Claim details Armenia’s “multiple violations” of its legal obligations under the Bern Convention.
