By acquiring weapons, Armenia exercises its sovereign right and develops its defense capabilities, deputy foreign minister Vahan Kostanyan stated at a press briefing Thursday.

“We [i.e. Armenia] have no intention of carrying out any offensive actions against any of our neighbors,” added Kostanyan.

And regarding the “arms race” that we are witnessing in the region, the deputy FM noted that Armenia has proposed to Azerbaijan to create a mutual arms control mechanism to address this issue, and that this proposal is still in effect.
