An American Airlines flight from New York to Delhi changed course for Fiumicino airport on Sunday afternoon as it flew over the Caspian Sea due to a suspected bomb threat, Euronews reported.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner had 199 passengers and crew members on board. Flight AA292 took off from JFK airport on Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. local time and landed at 5:22 p.m. at Rome airport, escorted by two military fighter jets. The remote area of the airport was prepared.

The U.S. airline felt it had the necessary personnel at Leonardo Da Vinci to handle the emergency and assist passengers who would find themselves at the remote destination. According to the procedure, after disembarkation, passengers will have to undergo a security check on board the plane, which will be conducted by bomb squad and police officers.

There were other airports for emergency landings along the route of AA292, including Istanbul and Dubai.
