ANKARA. – After the bill on penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide was adopted by the French Parliament, the Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a statement.

The Turkish PM stated that the French Parliament adopted the Armenian resolution on the day when a Turkish diplomat was killed by ASALA in 1979 in Paris, Turkish Zaman newspaper reports.

“We condemn seriously the decision. Moreover, we put into question the freedom of speech in France,” Erdogan said adding that the decision will damage the relations between the two states.

The French Parliament adopted the bill penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide on Thursday. The law, in case violation, intends a one year of imprisonment and a fine amounting to €45000. The bill was adopted by the committee on legal issues at the French Parliament on December 7. To note, Turkey threatened France with serious consequences before the adoption up to calling Turkish Ambassador to France back and breaking trade relations.
