On behalf of the head of the Armenian government, I will leave for Syria in April. Zareh Sinanyan, High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of Armenia, told this to a press conference Tuesday.

Sinanyan assured that the problems of the Armenian community in Syria and Lebanon are at the center of attention of the Armenian authorities. He said that the Armenian communities in the Middle East continue to be at risk. The Armenian official explained that currently there is no risk of military confrontation in Syria, but the people there have many problems, and the situation is unstable.

Sinanyan informed that in the past month there has been a constant influx of Syrian Armenians to Armenia.

“Since early December 2024, more than 200 Syrian Armenians have arrived in Armenia,” he said.

Sinanyan noted that the Armenian authorities continue to consider the situation in Lebanon dangerous because there has been no significant improvement in living conditions there, the financial situation of Lebanese Armenians is very dire, and therefore there is a possibility of their departure from Lebanon, and it is desirable that this outflow be to Armenia.

“Our local integration center uses all its resources to solve the problems of these people. Cooperation with numerous partners enables us to do this quickly. We, cooperating with our partners, buy [airline] tickets and, if necessary, pay for [their] residence in Armenia. If we do not create conditions for [these] Armenians to settle in Armenia with dignity, they will go to other countries,” the Armenian official concluded.
