In 2015, a total of 28,555 people were officially registered as drug users in Azerbaijan. But in 2021, this figure reached 34 thousand. This was stated in the country’s parliament by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on human rights, Zahid Oruj, APA reports.

The MP noted that, according to the data of the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan, in 2016, the number of narcologists in the country was 91, last year—67, and this year—66.

"That is, there are 500 drug users for every 1 narcologist," Oruj added.

According to him, even among convicted persons in Azerbaijan, the share of drug-related crimes exceeds 30 percent.
