Syria's new leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has submitted an official request to Russia for the extradition of the country's deposed President Bashar al-Assad, Al Arabiya reported.
According to media reports, the Syrian leader said that Assad should face trial in his homeland.
After his overthrow late last year, Bashar al-Assad fled with his family to Russia.
He held the post of President of Syria for 24 years.
