A magnitude 7.7 earthquake has struck Myanmar, BBC News reports, citing data from the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The quake's epicenter was 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing, near the city of Mandalay (Myanmar's second-largest city).

The tremors were felt in China and Thailand. Footage has appeared on social media showing people evacuating buildings in Bangkok. The tremors have caused water to spill out of rooftop pools.
