Azerbaijan is using the “trials” to incite hatred against Armenians. Siranush Sahakyan, president of the International Comparative Law Center and the lawyer representing the Armenian prisoners’ interests at the European Court of Human Rights, stated this at the annual meeting of the European Association of Judges (EAJ) being held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
Sahakyan recalled that, according to confirmed data, 23 Armenians are being held captive in Azerbaijan, and 16 of them are defendants in fake trials in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. These “trials” are being held behind closed doors, and observers are not allowed to attend them. And there have been cases when representatives of diplomatic missions who tried to attend these “trials” were summoned for questioning—and even expelled from Azerbaijan.
