India briefed the UN Security Council ambassadors, including Russia, on its military Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, noting that it was not aimed at escalating tensions but at deterrence, Indian government sources have said, reports The Hindu newspaper.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was asked a number of questions about the operations in the early hours of Wednesday, from the envoys of the 13 UN Security Council member countries including China, France, Russia, UK, US, and non-permanent members Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Pakistan, Panama, South Korea, Slovenia and Somalia.

Misri told these diplomats that India’s strikes on Pakistan were not an escalation, but a “response” to the Pahalgam terror attack. He stressed that the action was "targeted, measured and non-escalatory," and aimed at deterring and pre-empting more attacks being planned against India. Misri said that India would respond to any military escalation by Pakistan at this point.
