The exhibition of China’s leading universities held in Yerevan today was a wonderful opportunity for Armenian students wishing to receive higher education in China.
This event is being held for the third year in a row, giving Armenian university students, schoolchildren, and those interested in education in China the opportunity to personally meet with representatives of China’s leading universities, learn about their admission process, scholarships, and specialties.
Forty leading Chinese universities, including three universities that are in the top 50 of the Shanghai Ranking, participated in this exhibition.
In his remarks at the exhibition, the newly appointed ambassador of China to Armenia, Li Xinwei, emphasized that in recent years, a “Chinese language boom” has been observed all over the world. According to him, teaching Chinese has become one of the most active and rapidly developing humanitarian areas in Armenian-Chinese relations today.
“Since the establishment of the Confucius Institute in Armenia in 2009, with the support of the Armenian government and the joint efforts of lecturers and students from both sides, the interest in learning Chinese among Armenian youth has increased significantly. China’s higher education system covers many areas and is considered a global leader in many fields. This exhibition is a great opportunity for Armenian youth who want to study in China,” said the Chinese ambassador.
Also, Li urged Armenian students to use the opportunities provided to broaden their worldview, develop their professional skills, and become “ambassadors” of Armenian-Chinese cooperation in various domains.
The organizer of this exhibition is the International Chinese Examination Center, and the co-organizer is the Confucius Institute of the Brusov State University in Yerevan.
In her remarks, deputy director general of the International Chinese Examination Center, Juan Lei, noted that in the future she plans to deepen cooperation with Armenia by increasing the number of Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) examination centers. She added that the Armenian-Chinese cooperation in education will give a new impetus to relations between the two countries, and contribute to the development of human resources within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
The rector of Brusov State University, Davit Gyurjinyan, also highlighted the development of Chinese language teaching in Armenia, noting that previous exhibitions had a significant impact on the growth of interest in the Chinese educational system among the Armenian public.
“The potential for cooperation in this domain is great and promising. Our university is already actively working with a number of Chinese universities within the framework of inter-university cooperation. The exhibition of Chinese universities is an important platform that contributes to raising the standing of China’s education and strengthening its role in the global education space,” noted Gyurjinyan.
The organizers, participants, and visitors of the exhibition had the same view: the university system of China offers Armenian students high-quality education and real opportunities for career growth, which makes education in China more appealing and promising.
