Armenia has used Russian weapons in all the years since gaining independence, including to capture seven regions that it never officially claimed. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference in Armenian capital Yerevan on Wednesday—and answering a question about the use of Russian weapons by Azerbaijan to occupy the sovereign territory of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

"None of the first leaders of Armenia ever proposed recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh as an independent entity. Russian weapons were used to capture undisputed Azerbaijani regions and build fortifications and combat lines there, which showed that the calculation was on a very long-term preservation of the territories. Some analysts have said that they did not plan to transfer them to Azerbaijan at all," the Russian FM noted, adding that Russian weapons are used in Africa, too.

The national flag of Mozambique, for example, depicts a Kalashnikov assault rifle.
